Easy access to personal sandbox(es) from Homepage for Newcomers
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

User story:

As a new editor, I want to practice editing in my sandbox, because I want a safe place to get started.

Background:

Newcomers are afraid of breaking Wikipedia and want to practice in a private space where they can try things. Access to the sandbox is not often easy, especially on the mobile version.
One suggestion is to provide direct and easy access to the sandbox from the Homepage and share it with their mentors or other Wikipedians.

Acceptance criteria:
  • Mockup 2 or more ideas for how to expose access to a user's sandbox from the newcomer Homepage
  • Share mockups in this task and with the Growth team

At Celtic Knot 2024, several examples of workshops for beginners highlighted the systemic usage of the sandbox. Direct and easy access to the sandbox from the Homepage would be more than welcomed, as the workshop trainers do not always use the Homepage (which is sometimes perceived as a step to skip among many).

Interested to see these mockups as well! We on the apps team have been considering how to better support/surface the Sandbox to Mobile users - T383957. The Sandbox is not easily accessible from the Mobile Web or Apps (you must search for it).
