Can you clarify what the difference is between the two suggestions? Note that I've updated the other task to reflect that the request is not specifically about triggering an event.

If the underlying issue is the same, I think it makes sense to just have 1 task asking to help solve the use case.

This proposal was to add a feature in Codex that would mean the behaviour on selection would be to open the menu. The alternative task (T350946) was to add no feature to Codex, just emit an event, and let consumers write bespoke code to cause the menu to open anyway. I prefer this task for downstream users (as I am one), but it adds more to the maintenance burden of the Design Systems team to document/demo the feature.
