Request membership in PageTriage group (+2) for Sohom Datta
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Please make sure that you read and understood https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Gerrit/Privilege_policy , and provide all required information:

  • Your Gerrit username: Sohom Datta (sohomdatta1 (at) gmail.com)
  • The Gerrit repository or repositories to which access is required: mediawiki/extensions/PageTriage
  • Your reason, including links to patches written and reviewed:

I've made a few patches to PageTriage over the last month or so (after being introduced to it by @Novem_Linguae during Wikimania 2023), including a few comparatively major ones like this patch to migrate a lot of the code to use Codex standards and this patch which fixed a template duplication issue in the tagging module. I'd like to be added to the PageTriage Gerrit group so that I can review (+2) the patches of other volunteers as and when required :). I tend to focus on the frontend Vue/JS/Less/CSS side of things, though, I'm broadly familiar with PHP and SQL as well as evidenced by some of my more recent patches.

In addition to this, I already have +2 on ProofreadPage, the Wikisource extension (both WMF deployed extensions on Wikisource) and VideoCutTool where I help out with maintaining certain aspects of the codebases.

MediaWiki +2 soon? :)

Moderator Tools team has been helping out with PageTriage this year and we really appreciate their help, but they are wrapping up. So I think it makes sense to keep giving +2 to good PageTriage volunteers. Soda is a talented software engineer and has my support!

@MPGuy2824 is also on my radar, another great PageTriage volunteer software engineer that doesn't have +2 yet.

Us PageTriage volunteers are cognizant of our experience levels, and will be sure to add experienced WMF/mediawiki folks for more complicated patches. The Codex patch above is a good example of this, where we involved both the Design Systems Team and Jason Sherman in reviewing the patch, who are both great at Vue and Codex.

@MPGuy2824 has been doing amazing work as well, +1 in case they want to get +2 :)

I can attest to @Soda's professionalism and due care when submitting and reviewing patches for PageTriage :-)

I support this. As a moderator tools dev, I can say that @Soda has:

  • demonstrated a strong understanding of the frontend the Pagetriage extension
  • submitted very high quality patches
  • been a pleasure to work with in code review

@Soda is an asset to the project and PageTriage could use the additional +2 capacity now that our team is dedicating less time to the extension.

I'm glad my hardware got fixed before the 1 week period for this got over. @Soda has taken on some major patches within PageTriage and has implemented them nicely. Full support for this +2 request. Use it well.

Note: For Novem's +2 request, a (not-strictly-necessary) mail was sent to wikitech-l.
