[REQUEST] Product review for Adiutor MediaWiki extension
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Description
Adiutor is a MediaWiki extension to moderate, triage, and maintain content tasks to improve productivity. This is a volunteer project, I'm hoping to deploy it on trwiki, and a review would help if the Moderator Tools team have the capacity for it.

Event Timeline

I can't guarantee a timeline right now, but I will aim to give this extension a product review.

Notes below on my product review of the Adiutor extension:

At a high level, this extension solves real problems for Wikimedia moderators. As we identified in our research report a couple of years ago, it is confusing and cumbersome to report bad content for review on most Wikimedia projects. Usually a multi-step process defined on a hard-to-find process page, many Wikimedia communities have developed scripts, gadgets, and tools for making this workflow easier on contributors. From my testing Adiutor seems to be one of the more polished versions of such a tool, and has good potential for being extended to support multiple projects with its on-wiki configuration, something existing solutions have generally failed to achieve.

Experience
Notes from my experience of enabling and using Adiutor:

  • On the Moderation section of Special:Preferences it's confusing that most of the check boxes are checked and cannot be changed before Adiutor is enabled. Maybe there's nothing to be done about this without changing the behaviour of Preferences but making a note about this anyway.
  • The Moderation section of Preferences is missing a short description in the mobile/low screen width view:

  • When I requested speedy deletion of this page I selected 'Inform the user who created the page' but that doesn't seem to have happened.
  • When requesting page protection I was surprised that the Request for page protection page opened. It might be worth checking with other users, I would have expected to be told that a notice was posted there, but remain on the current page. If the page is going to open, it would be nice if it at least took me to the section which was just added.
    • Similar feedback on page moves.
  • In Special:AdiutorSettings the 'Article tagging' page has quite a confusing layout. I don't have suggestions on how to improve it but it took me a little while to understand it and it's hard to scroll up and down to find specific settings. Perhaps some collapsing could be helpful.

It strikes me that the configuration of this tool might be a good fit for #growthexperiments-communityconfiguration, once the 2.0 project has completed, making it available to other MediaWiki extensions. This would more closely integrate it with other products administrators can configure, making it more discoverable and familiar.

Overall this seems like a valuable extension and it seems to work as intended.
