[XS] Enable VisionPro in appstore connect
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The Apple Vision Pro is out now since 2 February 2024. Please feel free to either buy it or wait for a future model in the Vision lineup.

From what I learned, iOS/iPadOS apps will be automatically distributed into the App Store of visionOS, the operation system for the upcoming Vision Pro. In other words, the Wikipedia mobile app for iOS/iPadOS will be automatically ported (or auto-ported) to visionOS.

You guys have an option to either prevent the Wikipedia iOS app from being ported to visionOS (i.e. opting-out), allow auto-porting of the iOS app as-is, or modify the Wikipedia visionOS app especially for easier navigation and user experience.... (or options I'm unaware of). Apple has details on compatibility of existing apps on visionOS

FWIW, Netflix, Spotify and YouTube (not Google itself) have decided not to release their own apps, i.e. disallow the porting of their iOS apps and/or not yet create native apps, to visionOS.

(EDIT:) Netflix might allow porting of the mobile app to visionOS, but will leave the ported app unmodified (or unsupported)… or probably will not auto-port the mobile app at all. It won't yet create a native app for visionOS.

For more info on what visionOS is, please see T354121#9434163.

Checkmark is checked! Not sure how to test this without a device but maybe this page will update tomorrow:

Looks the same today. Note that our current App Store release was still built with Xcode 14.3.1, which may make a difference here. With the fix of T346810 we are switching to Xcode 15 for 7.4.7.

I see this VisionOS compatibility callout on our App Store page, which I think is the closest we can get to testing without a device. Moving this into PM sign off.

If you want the app to be beta-tested on actual equipment I can volunteer for that.

What about navigation experience and playing media content?

Yup, everything seems to work.

Admittedly, I don't have this year's Vision Pro, but I'll take your words and consider it resolved for now. A new task related to newer issues with the app on visionOS can be created here.
