Allow access to wikimedia servers through an I2P router
Open, LowPublicFeature

Description

Author: matthew.j.shea

Description:
This was briefly discussed in #wikimedia-tech and is posted here at the request of LeslieCarr.

Allowing access to wikimedia resources through the I2P darknet would protect the freedom of information of the Internet. Information on I2P can be found here: http://www.i2p2.de/

With proper configuration of the I2P router, the wikimedia server system should treat any request through I2P as a normal access.

What would the implications of this be? (Sorry, no time to dig myself.) You know [[m:NOP]] and our policy on tor, don't you (just checking)?

I2P doesn't appear to allow outbound connections (ie. you can't connect to I2P to download something not on I2P).
Obviously, such connections would not be allowed to edit...

I think the access to the information is a more critical component in the short-term than editing. Furthermore, it should be possible to setup the I2P router such that Wikipedia is on I2P, rather than utilizing a gateway.
