Temporarily replace the logo with a pride variant
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Similar to T337964: Temporarily replace the Phabricator logo for Pride Month (but outside of pride month), could we please change the header logo on https://developer.wikimedia.org to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikimedia_Foundation_QueERG_icon_white.svg ?

I have a patch prepared, and have optimised the svg using svgo.

Hi @TheresNoTime, Can you say more about why this is outside of pride month? What would the temporary time frame be?

Hi @apaskulin — much like my response in T337964#8896808, small acts of solidarity such as this are difficult to 'defend' outside of the context of "we should show solidarity".
I believe this proposal is subtle and uncontroversial, and although I called attention to the fact this change is outside of pride month, limiting such actions to a single month has never made much sense to me :-) I don't have any preconceptions on how long the timeframe should be, and would defer to you and your teams' judgement.

@bd808 thank you for the revert and prompt attention here.

I agree with @TheresNoTime that solidarity shouldn't require justification, however for the sake of an attempt: I believe this change was prompted in the face of the ongoing situation with frwiki. see: https://bagarrosphere.fr/@photos_floues/112047957955051151

Thanks for opening this task and for the context, @TheresNoTime and @MHorsey-WMF. I'm happy to +2 this, but considering that the Developer Portal is an official, public-facing Foundation site, I'd like to get approval from Comms before we do this. I've opened a request with them through their Asana form.

Since the time frame for when this task was relevant has now passed, I'm going to mark it as Declined.
