Update key mapping in Narayam Gujarati transliteration
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Certain characters don't work as expected, hence suggest mapping is done for Gujarati transliteration as per http://gu.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Translit.js

e.g. o=ઑ & O=ઓ, which should be the otherway round. Also some special characters like ઝ, જ્ઞ, etc are not mapped (or unknown thich keys they are mapped to).

Moving to internationalization someone of that team can have a look at it.

This is an issue with a local JavaScript, please ask the author of that script to fix issues with it. A list of authors can be found here: http://gu.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%E0%AA%AE%E0%AB%80%E0%AA%A1%E0%AA%BF%E0%AA%AF%E0%AA%BE%E0%AA%B5%E0%AA%BF%E0%AA%95%E0%AA%BF:Translit.js&action=history

For more centralised support, I would advise the Gujarati community to consider moving from a local implementation of input tools to the use of Narayam[1] input methods. It has support for Gujarati InScript as well as transliteration. Both input methods are in beta, and need community testing. They can be tested at translatewiki.net. We'd very much appreciate your input.

This type of issues with local scripts should not be tracked here, so I'm closing this report as invalid.

Argh. I misread the issue. You did test Narayam. Sorry :).

Assigning to Santhosh.

Do you have a user documentation on this transliteration rules? Something Similar to http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:Narayam/Malayalam/Transliteration
We need a user friendly documentation of this input method to give in Narayam help page in mediawiki.org http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:Narayam
It will be really helpful for bug fixing too.

I corrected the o, O issues in r110646.
za or Za maps to ઝ
in r110647 jna is mapped to જ્ઞ

Thanks Santhosh for updating key mapping. btw, when will these new keys be functional to test on trasnlatewiki.net? as I still can see behavious of o & O as it was prior to reporting this bug, and can't even find ઝ & જ્ઞ with za & jna

We don't have such user documentation, but will prepare it soon. Definitely before we go live with Narayam.

Translatewki.net has latest code now. You will be able to test it.

Thanks. Let me know if I can help.

Hey Santhosh and Dhaval,

I tested the script over here http://translatewiki.net/wiki/User:Rangilo_Gujarati/test

It is working, also o and O and jna are in effect. Now we need documentation for this.

Thanks Arnav for testing this. But I have found some more bugs. If you tested it to full, you must have noticed that e and E don't behave as they should.

e=ઍ and E=એ while..
ke=કે and kE=કૅ ...

hence e & E should be swapped for એ and ઍ respectively.

Also, I still can't see mapped to z/Z. z still maps to જ, which should in fact be mapped to ઝ.

As I have stated earlier, I will be working on documentation, so let us get these characters fixed fixed.

Thanks for the documentation. Could you please make the table header and sub titles in English? The page is translatable page, so the base version should have them in English.
