The current category field has many problems:

• It is difficult for users to think of categories
• It is difficult for users to understand the type of categories to enter i.e. higher level vs lower level
• It is difficult for users to find the right category to put their work in as different people may word their categories differently
• It is added work for community to correct the categories entered by users and put it in the correct tree structure

This ticket is to come up with solutions that might help solve some of the problems above.
A few ideas:

• Consider exposing category tree to the user so that it is easier to select the most specific category. (mentioned in community discussions)
• Consider making it a structured task for after media is uploaded where more help can be provided
• Evaluate if using depicts to automatically arrive at categories or autosuggest categories is possible without compromising quality (mentioned in community discussions)
• Only select from available categories
• UploadWizard should recognise when a category is a redirect to another T359805
• Update the category UI to look less like tags but more like pages as shown here
• etc
