2024 week 24 1.43-wmf.9 Changes wmf/1.43.0-wmf.9

This MediaWiki Train Deployment is scheduled for the week of Monday, June 10th:

Monday June 10thTuesday, June 11thWednesday, June 12thThursday, June 13thFriday
Backports only.Branch wmf.9 and deploy to Group 0 Wikis.Deploy wmf.9 to Group 1 Wikis.Deploy wmf.9 to all Wikis.No deployments on fridays

How this works

  • Any serious bugs affecting wmf.9 should be added as subtasks beneath this one.
  • Any open subtask(s) block the train from moving forward. This means no further deployments until the blockers are resolved.
  • If something is serious enough to warrant a rollback then you should bring it to the attention of deployers on the #wikimedia-operations IRC channel.
  • If you have a risky change in this week's train add a comment to this task using the Risky patch template
  • For more info about deployment blockers, see Holding the train.

IMHO T366419: Default user option for Reference Previews changed for users created before 2017/08/16 without any justification should have been a train blocker for last week, but no one identified the bug before the weekend.

I am not sure what to do, so I leave this message here for attention and maybe someone can take action.

Thanks. Issues existing last week are no train blockers for this week, basically.

To expand on this, we only block the train over the weekend if it can't be avoided, and rollbacks on Mondays are only done in very exceptional circumstances. Since the deploy of this week's train will have no effect on the existing issue, we won't block here.

End-of-workday status: Stable at group1.

I just deployed a config change that relies on two changes in the EntitySchema extension that are only in wmf.9; backporting them to wmf.8 seems to be impractical (T367334#9885619, second part). If the train has to be rolled back, so that group1 and/or group0 are on wmf.8 again, I suggest that you first deploy this config change (a partial revert of the other one) to avoid errors on Test Wikidata client wikis (wikidataclient-test.dblist, i.e. testwiki, test2wiki, testwikidatawiki, testcommonswiki โ€“ note that test2wiki is in group1).

If this isnโ€™t done, then testwiki and test2wiki would probably see errors related to various WikibaseRepo.* services being missing, and potentially have some namespaces, special pages and hook handlers that theyโ€™re not supposed to have (if the service errors arenโ€™t fatal anyways). testcommonswiki would also likely have those extra namespaces etc. in that case (without the errors about the missing services).

If the revert is done, then you would be able to see a rare error like โ€œThe serialization "E3300" is not recognized by the configured id buildersโ€ on testwiki and/or test2wiki (e.g. on testwiki:Human โ€“ example logstash entry from before I deployed the above config change which fixes the error), but thatโ€™s much better than the expected fallout if the revert isnโ€™t done (the rare error represents the status quo we had before wmf.9 + that config change).

Mentioned in SAL (#wikimedia-operations) [2024-06-13T18:16:17Z] <brennen> 1.43.0-wmf.9 train (T361403): no current blockers, rolling to group2

Change #1043184 had a related patch set uploaded (by TrainBranchBot; author: Brennen Bearnes):

brennen moved this task from Doing/Involved to Done or Declined on the User-brennen board.

Looking stable at all wikis currently. Optimistically resolving.
