Follow-up investigation on dewiki demographics
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Goal: investigate whether large observed changes in demographic estimates on dewiki from 2019--2023

  1. can be replicated in a follow-up survey
  2. are robust to variations in survey mode (QS vs. Limesurvey)
  3. correspond to broader trends in public survey data

Tasks:

  • Draft research design
  • Field pilot surveys on Quicksurvey and Limesurvey (and Google sheets?)

Event Timeline

Update:

  • Potential reprioritization in readers survey analysis goals may mean that this cannot be prioritized this quarter

Moving to the Backlog lane for determining prioritization. @Isaac cc.

Yu-Ming and I discussed -- leaving in backlog for another month because we might want to pick up if there's an opportunity and ultimately the decision brief should tell us whether we'll be picking up reader survey work soon. I'll be mindful though and move to decline if that becomes the direction we're going.

We're going to decline this task. The major Reader research in the next quarter will be T393802: Readers foundational research: what do readers use Wikipedia for? when and why do people use other apps/sites for these same needs? , which is less likely to answer the question asked in this task. We may return to it in the future but in the interest of not having too many backlog tasks, I'm declining.
