Migrate data-engineering-alerts email list from Mailman to a Google Group
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

We have decided to move the email distribution list that we use for notifying the Data-Engineering team to relevant alerts from its current home on the mailman list servers to a Google Group.

As such, the address that we use to send these alerts will change:
From:

  • data-engineering-alerts@lists.wikimedia.org

To:

  • data-engineering-alerts@wikimedia.org

In preparation for this move, we have completed T358675: Update the From: addresses of all email from DPE pipelines so that they use routable addresses and the Data-Platform-SRE team has already migrated their alerts to a Google Group.

This task will cover finalising the configuration of the data-engineering-alerts Google Group, including its membership, as well as updating all references to the destination address within our configuration.

I have made sure that the membership list of the Google Group (https://groups.google.com/a/wikimedia.org/g/data-engineering-alerts/members) is the same as the membership list of the Mailman list (https://lists.wikimedia.org/postorius/lists/data-engineering-alerts.lists.wikimedia.org/members/member/) and sent a message to the new members, explaining the change.

Change #1030172 had a related patch set uploaded (by Btullis; author: Btullis):

[operations/puppet@production] Update the email address for data-engineering-alerts

I believe that this is complete. I will monitor the mailing list and delete it once we confirm that it is no longer in use.
