Background

We currently have a set of features that let translators and multilingual editors contribute in their own language. Despite being possible to add content in multiple languages, the process is not as efficient as it could be.
Sometimes, because of lack of clarity in our language fallback strategy, readers are confused about content being displayed in a language that they don’t know.
As part of this work, we want to focus our work on language fallback strategy in the 'About' widget.

Approach

• For readers we’d like to confidently display content in languages that they are familiar with, and make it clear when content in their language is not available to provide a potential entry point for contribution.
• For editors, we’d like to streamline the translation process, make it possible to add multiple translations and languages with ease. Moreover it should be clear where content is coming from, and where it can be translated.

Acceptance Criteria/Success Metrics

• We successfully implement the 'About widget' fallback and editing flow design changes
• We gather enough feedback to give us confidence to expand the same approach to other areas of Wikifunctions

• We receive at least 2 positive feedback messages from Wikifunctions translators
