Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

User story & summary:

As a new editor visiting my Newcomer homepage, I want to be able to click through to learn more about a community update, so that I can deepen my involvement in the wikis.

Parent task: T360485: [EPIC] Newcomer homepage: Community updates module (FY23/24 WE1.3 / FY24/25 SDS2.1.3)

Designs:

Community updates: Figma designs for Homepage module.

Community updates: Figma designs for the configuration form.

Acceptance Criteria:

Is there any reason to not make CommunityUpdates available in all Beta wikis? The banner won't be shown unless an administrator explicitly checks the "Turned on" checkbox, since it has a default value of false. cc @KStoller-WMF

Etonkovidova subscribed.

@JFernandez-WMF @KStoller-WMF - the both links in the task description don't seem to be working - displays "couldn't find file" message.
I found the following figma references to Community updates banner -this figma link; not sure if the design there is up-to-date.

Minor questions:

Screen Shot 2024-07-09 at 2.56.05 PM.png (1×2 px, 239 KB)

(1) the link Community Updates redirects to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Growth/Community_Updates not to the Spanish translation of the page - https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Growth/Community_Updates/es. Is it a normal behavior?

<a href="https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Growth/Community_Updates" class="extiw" title="mw:Special:MyLanguage/Growth/Community Updates">Community Updates</a>

(2) A suggestion - dipslay should be followed by an object or may be used in a passive voice, e.g. "is displayed".
This Community Updates module will display on the homepage and should be used to share ...

(3) Movement strategy’s “Topics for Impact” recommendation redirects to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Strategy/Recommendations/Identify_Topics_for_Impact#Changes_and_Actions%7C2030 which produces "this topic could not be found" message on the page.

<a class="external text" href="https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Strategy/Recommendations/Identify_Topics_for_Impact#Changes_and_Actions%7C2030">Movement strategy’s “Topics for Impact”</a>

Maybe it'd be better to make the link direct to just a page not to a specific section?

Thanks @Etonkovidova for noticing the file issue! The designs were moved to a new file but I missed updating the links on this task. I will update the task description.
