Hi folks,
in the parent task we've determined that centrallog1002 1gbit NIC is not enough anymore. I'm thus wondering what options we have to upgrade to 10gbit NIC for this host? Specifically a config B R440 (netbox page)
thank you!

@VRiley-WMF & @Jclark-ctr - can you see if we have any spare 10g NICs from decommissioned servers for this?
Thanks,
Willy
@wiki_willy Yes, I was able to locate one. @fgiunchedi is there an estimated time and date for us to bring the server down and install the it?
Thank you! Yes next week we'll be around to assist with this; would Monday work for you? I'll be around until ~17.00 UTC
Hey @fgiunchedi sorry for the late response. I am available to work on this today. Please be aware, we will have to physically move the server in order to plug in a 10Gbit connection.
Hey @fgiunchedi Just wanted to verify, since we would have to physically move this server into another rack (and in turn, have to change the IP) this activity is no longer needed, correct? If so, I will close this ticket. Thanks!
Just to make sure we're on the same page before we postpone (i.e. change IP first): there's no 10G ports/space available in row B (any rack that is, and since this is old-style row we wouldn't need a new IP)
thank you !
There is another rack in row B that we can use for this server. However, moving it to another rack will require an IP change when I last confirmed it.
@VRiley-WMF we shoudln't need to change the IP if it's moving within row B in eqiad, as the old switches in those rows are still set-up in a row-wide virtual-chassis and vlans.
In rows E and F in eqiad that's different, as the newer devices we use per-rack vlans (also annoyingly the newer switches are the ones that need the same speed for every block of 4 ports beside each other).
I may have been misinformed, I know when I had inquired about this, it was stated that it would need to be changed. @Papaul would you be able to confirm this?
I asked this same question on July 15th on IRC and i didn't get any response
12:20 < papaul> VRiley: godog: which rack are you moving centrallog1002 to ?
as @cmooney mentioned when moving servers within the same row (A,B,CD) no need for IP change since those row are still on the row based configuration.
@Papaul Thanks for the confirmation. On July 15th I asked you at 10:18AM if it would need a change and you responded that with confirmation at 11:00AM. The timestamp and comment you have doesn't seem to be showing. I will proceed with the move.
@VRiley-WMF no problem let me know if you need any help since we did move one in codfw yesterday
Thank you all for the clarification, I'm glad we're able to do the move without re-addressing after all!
This is what we did for centrallog2002 the other day in https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T369826
I'm not familiar with the netbox side of things and this particular procedure though and @Papaul did the netbox side, would you be able to assist for this as well ? and/or coordinate with @VRiley-WMF ? thank you
ok thank you! how's your morning tomorrow to carry out this, @VRiley-WMF @Papaul ? I'm expecting no more than 30-40 minutes tops
@VRiley-WMF can you provide me with the rack and switch port the server is in and connected to right now and the rack and switch port where the server will be moved to on the task so i can create the interface.
