Hi folks,
in the parent task we've determined that centrallog2002 1gbit NIC is not enough anymore. I'm thus wondering what options we have to upgrade to 10gbit NIC for this host? Specifically a config B R440 (netbox page)
thank you!

@Jhancock.wm & @Papaul - can you see if we have any spare 10g NICs from decommissioned servers for this?
Thanks,
Willy
We do have a spare but are using it in a test server. Should be free next week for use.
Thank you @Jhancock.wm that's great! Please LMK a day and time of next week that would work for you
Got the card back @fgiunchedi. I'm free to swap it anytime on Tuesday or Thursday between 8am and 4pm CDT
Thank you ! I'm good with Tues, though I'd like to confirm first (maybe @Papaul) that swapping the card doesn't require a physical move of the server which in turn might mean a change of IP address. As we discovered with @VRiley-WMF in T369825 and on IRC.
thank you !
We won't need to move racks. But because of the way the switches are, we can't reuse the same port on the switch. we'll be moving to a different set of 4. Are you going to reimage the server?
No the server will stay as-is, provided we can indeed keep the same IP, and it seems to be the case! I was hoping to be able to swap in a 10g card only (modulo all adjustments like port switches on netbox for example)
@fgiunchedi yes the server will keep the same IP since we will just relocate it within the same rack. please see step below
-reboot the server up reboot the network services
Netbox setups
let me know if you need any help with all those steps. I am doing the same thing for dpproxy200[5-8] T362824
Thank you @Papaul that is quite helpful!
The steps make sense to me, I'm happy to take care of the server configuration (adjusting configuration). I'd even simplify those as such to touch the server only once:
Then the netbox steps, what do you think ? Either way I'm not attached to the exact procedure, whichever works best for you
Icinga downtime and Alertmanager silence (ID=0bfb0df8-b693-4fb7-8581-00886bab46c6) set by filippo@cumin1002 for 3:00:00 on 1 host(s) and their services with reason: network upgrade
centrallog2002.codfw.wmnet
This is done! We went with the procedure I suggested above, namely I took the host side configuration by logging back in via console to adjust the network configuration with the new interface name. @Jhancock.wm did the host physical move by connecting everything to its final location, and @Papaul did the netbox + network part
thank you all!
