A very janky implementation of this is available in form of a userscript (see section about security for a disclaimer).
The script Vectron.js can be installed by adding it to the vector-2022.js user subpage. Go to [[Special:MyPage/vector-2022.js]] and add:

This would make for some very hard to maintain code - the code is already pretty complex given the behaviour being different on different pages. I would prefer us to find another way to solve this problem if possible.
