Document of some open questions/ideas in progress:
- Is there a way of determining how ‘active’ a WikiProject is (in terms of recent edits to the page, articles added within the scope of the WikiProject, events held recently, or other metrics)? And then could we use that to rank/sort WikiProjects by level of general activity?
- Context: This could help us determine which WikiProjects are the most ready for people to join and engage with today, so we could feature them in the Community List and see what practices they may be engaging in that are successful. This could also help us identify WikiProjects that have become less active, so we can reach out to them and try to learn more about what struggles they have encountered and if there are opportunities for improvement or revival.
- Is there a way of determining new sign-ups/registrations for membership in a WikiProject? And, if yes, can we track the activity of a user who goes from the Community List to the WikiProject page and then signs up?
- This could help us track if the Community List is generating new memberships to WikiProjects. It could also help us get some comparisons of registration on event pages vs. WikiProjects via the Community List.
- How many unique signatures are there? -> This could help identify who is involved, especially if we look at subpages
- Can we get data on the breakdown of referral traffic sources for event pages and WikiProject pages? For example: social media is 20% of referral traffic, CentralNotice is 40%, the Community List is 10%
- This could help us see if the Community List can be a viable new pathway to event or WikiProject discovery.
- Larger conceptual question: What data can we get about “connections between contributors” today? What metric(s) & baseline(s) can we set for it, if any?
- Ideas: Badges added to user pages by other contributors (such as barnstars), likes for edits, Invitations to projects or events or affiliates, joining projects or events or affiliates, activity in WikiProjects, retention rates of WikiProject contributors, repeated positive or constructive engagement from a contributor on a talk page
