This monitoring plan is intended to check for unintended impacts to readership and other metrics as a result of the recent decision to disable Chrome Private Prefetch Proxy (CP3)

[Readership] Reductions in real user traffic

  • Impact to fundraising via decreased unique devices
  • Readership experience

[Latency] Latency and traffic serving metrics are impacted

  • Reduction in readership experience

[SEO] SEO is impacted

  • Reductions in Google impressions and search position
  • Reductions in Google search referral associated traffic

[Control] Site owner controls are ineffective at controlling prefetch behavior from Google

Final Update:

Continuing to receive requests with the Google prefetch header. Google team has shared that they can confirm that our implementation is successful but were unable to provide a conclusion on the source of this traffic. Traffic counts are nominal and not a priority for continued investigation.
