Seems odd to give folks an account without telling them what that account is named. How will they recognize their signature on a talk page, for example?
Can avoid hyperlinking it if we want, to discourage the creation of a user page.
We can use gray font color to make it even more clear that it's not clickable. We do this for the "Not logged in" username, for example.

@Novem_Linguae where is your screenshot from? The temp accounts banner on Vector 2022 and Minerva shows the temporary account username at the top.

We are not actively testing IP masking in legacy Vector. My assumption is that IP masking is currently only going to be rolled out on sites with Vector 2022 as default.
The username currently shows in the banner which is not supported by legacy Vector due to T339377: Provide temporary accounts banner for legacy Vector
