Description

Steps to replicate the issue

Open an article in the English Wikipedia that has a French or Italian interlanguage link, e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruno_Cotte
Click on "edit source" (which links to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bruno_Cotte&action=edit&useskin=vector )
Click the "Preview" button at the very right in the toolbar of the editor software
The "Languages" entry in the sidebar on the left gets populated

What happens?

The interlanguage links for "Italiano" and "Français" turn lowercase.

What should have happened instead?

They should stay capitalized, like the others.

Where exactly to see language links? Could you attach a screenshot please, to avoid misunderstandings?

If I use VisualEditor and Vector 2010 skin, and go to the edit page, I see a list of languages in the sidebar on the left but all capitalized: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bruno_Cotte&veaction=edit&useskin=vector
If I use WikiEditor and Vector 2022 skin, and go to the edit page, the "Add languages" dropdown in the upper right corner is empty: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bruno_Cotte&action=edit&useskin=vector2022

It occurs with WikiEditor and Vector 2010 skin: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bruno_Cotte&action=edit&useskin=vector. Here’s a screenshot:

Ah, thanks. I had to press "Preview".

In my understanding this is not a bug, as all language names are written in their own language, so it's up to that very language if it uses the concept of capitalization - not all languages do.

Interesting; I wasn’t aware that this only shown together with the preview.

I'm reopening because there’s certainly some unintended behaviour. This is a screenshot of https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bruno_Cotte&useskin=vector (Vector 2010 skin, without editing):

The French and Italian interlanguage links are capitalized. So even if French and Italian didn’t use the concept of capitalization, one of these two behaviours would be wrong.
They do use that concept, though; these are the main pages of the French and Italian Wikipedias; all the link texts in all the sidebars start with a capital letter.
