  1. we should probably manage this CiviCRM VPS using OpenStack, but CTB does not provide OpenStack.
  2. we should simplify sysadmin onboarding, and at the moment this is the only (non-backup) server that is hosted outside VH. The historical reason was: this has a smaller cost, but at the price of having no automated snapshots, etc.

  • decide a new name for the VPS (lol)
  • prepare the new VM; inventory it in https://wiki.wikimedia.it/wiki/Server
  • contact CiviHost to plan a migration - inform users - do that migration

I suggest to seriously evaluate Hetzner instead of OVH

https://www.hetzner.com/

It is a german based hosting provider.
In more then 5 years of use the nerver had a down.
It cost LESS then OVH and it does not burn.

The also have a quite strict privacy policy and... they use Matomo!

They also offer some interesting additional services such as S£ compatible object storage and Next Cloud istances.

Please consider it.

To speedup the evaluation of Hetzner, the WMIT board probably needs a small side-by-side economical comparison.

I know it's not possible to share a 1:1 comparison, but something can be done. Can you help in this?

I tried to update the table with the requested data, but I did not found any information about CPU frequency.

How you can see Hetzner, with a better product (more cores, more storage) and a better dashboard, cost half of OVH (or less, depending of cpu architecture).

Second part: yearly estimation.

The WMIT board (that is the blessed gatekeeper of money) will then need a single "maximum budget", intended as "maximum cost /year VAT included", so they can approve the budget and we can play. Maybe just for option CPX31 but considering snapshots. Not needed to other options.

(In doubt, stay a bit generous with this calculated yearly estimation, with a margin of error, so the board don't have to approve twice if there are the usual small unexpected fees).

I "suggest" DEDICATED resource for Web Server. For secondary DNS it's OK Shared... But for WebServer with important website DEDICATED pleaseeee

Dedicated server are the best solution, in my opinion, permit to create more VPS, snapshot unlimited, unlimited flat connectivity, TB of SSD disk, backup VPS, ecc... but not for everyone.... I know. 1k€ / years we have 6 VPS not one.
