General QA of Wikidata and temporary accounts on testwiki
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

In this task, we should perform a general QA check of Wikidata to support the deployment of temporary accounts to pilot wikis. In our deployment plan, we will enable temporary accounts to some pilot wikis in October. Wikidata will not have temporary accounts enabled in October. We want to be sure that there are no negative impacts to Wikidata when this happens.

We currently have temp accounts enabled on test.wikipedia.org and test2.wikipedia.org but *not* test.wikidata.org, so this mimics what the pilot wiki deployment set up will look like. It would be useful then to perform a general QA and review of how editing on testwiki impacts (or does not impact) test wikidata from a temporary accounts perspective.

One thing that would be useful to understand is if Wikidata would benefit from switching on the isKnown configuration flag. That means, temporary accounts are *not* created on edit, but that the MediaWiki instance on Wikidata would know about the temporary accounts concept, recognize temporary account usernames as such. This configuration is intended to be used as a safe "off switch" for the temporary accounts feature, but might be useful for Wikidata if there are automated edits made from a client wiki to Wikidata.org.

@kostajh thanks for flagging this, can you please elaborate what you mean by "General QA"? Are there any particular scenarios you think should require more or special consideration?

So far, quality assurance review / testing has happened on a bunch of individual tasks for Wikibase, which is great. What I'm proposing here is to take a holistic look / overview at how temporary accounts on a client wiki work (or don't work) with a Wikibase instance that doesn't have temporary accounts enabled, and then file any tasks as needed.

Hi @kostajh,
We have tested what we can, and everything looks good. Unfortunately, we were unable to connect articles from Wikipedia to Wikidata as we can't trigger it on the Vector 2022 skin on test.wikipedia.

And also how temp accounts Wikidata will show on Wikipedia recent changes as test.wikidata doens't have temp accounts enabled, but we are confident that it will be ok as the local test is showing that it will work correctly.
