Add default background for transparent images in night mode
Closed, DeclinedPublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

What happens?:

  • The image has a transparent background. That's why dark parts of the logo cannot be seen because of the black-colored background.

What should have happened instead?:

  • Dark parts should be seen in night mode, too. Maybe by adding a default background for images if the have a transparent background or adding an opportunity to manually add a night-mode image background.

Default background has been added to top-level images in T370074 - which doesn't apply to the example because it's inside an infobox.

We previously considered a holistic solution for all projects and decided it was too disruptive to some projects - particularly articles that use logos that typically have brand guidelines around how they should be used. For example McDonalds logo. As a result we compromised on a solution that doesnt force a white background on any template as we believe it creates too much unnecessary work for communities.

For German Wikivoyage you are welcome as a community to discuss adding such a rule to your site CSS but we wont be doing it in Vector 2022
