Investigate compatibility of Job Access with Speech (JAWS)
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Initially, I was hesitant to create a task about a screen reader JAWS (Job Access with Speech). It is not a free software but rather requires either an annual license or a lifetime one costing $1000+ (especially for home use). Furthermore, it's not made by companies whose browsers MediaWiki supports (e.g. Google and Apple). Nonetheless, from what I read, this screen reader is one of popular ones for Windows users with vision issues. I reluctantly now create this task to see how the task goes. Speaking of Windows, JAWS is a Windows-only software for now.

@gh87: Compatibility of what exactly? MediaWiki? Some MediaWiki extensions? A Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons app? Something else?

@Aklapper: Let's start with Wikipedia website (primarily desktop view) first before other Wikimedia projects to test the JAWS out. Unfortunately, as said, I don't have access to the pricier JAWS. A single-user license for permanent home use costs $1,000+. Annual home use costs $95 per year.

For business use, perpetual single-user license costs $1,625. A ninety-day use cost $290. Licenses are pricier for average user to affort.
