This task involves the work of offering people the ability to opt-out of receiving prompts from Edit Check.
Story
As someone who experiences Edit Check to be distracting/disruptive to the extent that the feedback it offers is causing me to consider stopping editing all together, I want a way to turn off the feature, so that I can focus on the edits I'm wanting to make.
Open questions
- At what level of "granularity" should we offer people the ability to opt-out? E.g. on a per-Check basis? The system level? For a period of time? Something else...?
- What information might we need to determine when implementing opt-out functionality is a priority?
Background to
Thank you to @suffusion_of_yellow for prompting this task:
I think the most important thing is the ability to opt-out. Different people react in different ways to moving or changing elements. Some people will appreciate this. For others, it might be so distracting that they'll give up editing. There probably isn't a "sweet spot" where can ensure 100% of people will notice and 100% won't be aggravated. Our brains just react differently to motion. So give the user control. | source
