Hi!

As I understand, IRC users are no longer visible to each other on the new ircstream service, so I suppose a cloak may not be necessary. Still, a user joining irc.wikimedia.org may think their IP is exposed. Is this intended, or should a cloak be enabled on irc1003.wikimedia.org as well?

My understanding is that the IP address is not exposed to the rest of the sandboxes, every client gets its own and it doesn't have visibility on others. Since ircstream is not a full implementation of an IRC server, there shouldn't be any privacy concerns but we can definitely add some info to MOTD (even if I am not 100% sure if everybody will read it).

We sent an email to Wikitech-l explaining the move, but we didn't know how to reach out to all clients/bots connected, really sorry for the trouble.

We can also expand https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Irc.wikimedia.org with new info, so the link in the MOTD should lead to ircstreams directly.

And if you run a bot operating on irc.wikimedia.org, it would be fantastic if you could leave some information at https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Ircstream#Bots_still_using_the_legacy_setup

It would be helpful to have actively used bots listed there for a better overview.

@Titore do you feel that the above Wikitech change is enough? The link is visible on the MOTD, so it should be easy for a user to get the privacy info. Lemme know :)
