Description

Steps to reproduce

  1. Be logged in, view an article and add it to reading list or have existing saved articles or reading lists.
  2. Confirm the automatic "Saved" or another custom reading list shows up as e.g. "20 of 20 articles available offline, 23,42 MB", incl. short description and thumbnails
  3. Disconnect from internet (airplane mode or manually turn of data and wifi)
  4. Reopen the app, go to saved and open an article

Expected results

The saved version to appear.

Actual results

One of two errors:

  • Cannot connect to internet. Button "Retry", bottom line: Unable to resolve host "[both de and en].wikipedia.org": No address associated with hostname
  • An error occured. Button: "Go Back", bottom line: Offline object not present in filesystem

Pressing Retry or refreshing by dragging from the top sometimes switches makes the error go from one to the other.

Environments observed

App version: *2.7.50506-r-2024-10-08*
Android OS versions:*14*
Device model:*Pixel 7a*
Device language:*English*

Notes

I tried the "Remove all from offline" and "Save all for offline", logging out and back in, clearing the app cache, reinstalling the app, moving articles between lists, ...
The option "Prefer offline content" does not change this behavior.

Event Timeline

Floowey claimed this task.

I just found a different issue that relates this to a VPN. Turning it off indeed fixes my issue.
