IAB doesn't detect archiving parameters in cite web template, and adds additional Webarchive template
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Affected wiki(s):
uk

Diff(s) (if applicable):
43841662, 43870236

What is happening?:
IAB doesn't detect archiving parameters in cite web template, and adds additional Webarchive template

What should happen instead?:
IAB should add archive parameters to cite templates themselves or do nothing if parameters are presented.

List of steps to reproduce (step by step, including full links if applicable):

  • Open a page of Ukrainian Wikipedia with cite templates
  • Then analyze a page using IABot Management with a checkbox adding archives to undead URLs (checkbox not necessarily needed, but it is easy to see a problem in case the page has only live URLs)
  • Bot places Webarchive template next to cite templates that support archive parameters

Event Timeline

The documentation box in the Ukrainian Wikipedia had broken styling. I fixed it, and, maybe, that's why the bot behaves like this. Usually, if the bot doesn't see the TemplateData, it can act weirdly. But it seems that some time needs to pass to see if the problem is fixed.

It seems like it didn't resolve the problem. However, it can be a cause of the problem because these edits started two days (on November 6) after the documentation was broken (on November 4).
