Could this be potentially used for templates on translatewiki.net as well? Currently the localisation system for templates there is a bit of a mishmash of different ways of localisation (in my work I’ve seen Localized template, splitting it to subpages with the same code, splitting it to /i18n subpage and including its subpages, using Translate extension unsuccessfully). Seems like it could be a nice testing ground for the system. I can help with template conversion if this idea would be greenlit (though some templates may need to be unprotected since my admin bit expires in 5 days). I think what would mostly benefit from the transition are templates with manual subpages, which there are a lot of (with copy-pasted code, which complicates the maintenance).
I’ve described the current state before in https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Support/Archive/2024/10#Template_translations
