Background
Learning about foundation metrics is hard because they are documented across several, sometimes [[ https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Product/Data_dictionary | outdated ]]wikipages, google docs and other information repositories. This causes confusion and makes it hard to find standardized information about how metrics are constructed and the caveats and details within them. Solving this documentation problem will allow us to both centralize existing knowledge of metrics and create a looking repository for future metric additions.
This project aims to take on several tasks:
- Perform an inventory of all pages related to foundation metrics
- Align approach and get buy-in from other metric producing teams (research, product analytics, community growth, fundraising analytics, WMDE)
- Consult with technical writing team to design a central place, likely on-wiki where we can document metrics. This should include an template for both an overview page as well as metric details pages (perhaps borrow from ML team's model card approach)
- Migrate information to central place and metric pages
- Deprecate other pages and provide links and/or redirects back to central metric repositories.
