(I remember that I was not convinced when the "In Progress" task status was created in T288956 and I am still not convinced.)

I've reset about 50 tasks yesterday (as pointed out in T288956), I'll probably reset another 70 soon, all with more than two years of no status change.

This makes a lot of sense to me! I think it would also encourage breaking tasks into smaller pieces (for instance, in such cases where work takes longer than 6 months). Would the simplest thing be a Herald rule that changes open, in-progress tasks older than 6 months? Or, alternatively, open, in-progress tasks that haven't been touched at all? The latter can be tricky because "touched" can be a lot of things.

I reset status of "In Progress" tasks to "Open" for all tasks with that status for more than one year.
