Closed, InvalidPublicFeature

Description

Feature summary (what you would like to be able to do and where):
Middle clicking on an alert should open it in a new browser tab

Use case(s) (list the steps that you performed to discover that problem, and describe the actual underlying problem which you want to solve. Do not describe only a solution):
Users know that middle clicking on hyperlinks, or Facebook notifications, opens them in a new browser tab.

Benefits (why should this be implemented?):
Else middle clicking seems to make them disappear!

Event Timeline

I can't reproduce this problem. Middle-clicking on alerts opens the associated links in a new browser tab for me, and marks the alert as read (unless the alert has no link, like the email alerts in your screenshot, in which case middle-clicking doesn't do anything).

I see.
Well we users aren't used to clicking on something and nothing happens.
Therefore there should be a popup triggered,
that reminds the user to "Go visit your Gmail, etc. mailbox to see this message!"
Else it seems it is supposed to open up a message box like Facebook has inside the same website.

This makes no sense. Middle-clicking does open a new tab.

This has nothing to do with Commons
