Description

Goal:

Review the Design team's Statement of Purpose (also here) and Wikimedia Design Principles and propose updates and changes that may be needed to reflect changes in our team mandate and state of Wikimedia design since 2016.

Team:

Working group of designers (@KColeman-WMF, @DTorsani-WMF, @Sarai-WMF) who were not involved with the original work review in consultation with one of the original authoring designers (@Pginer-WMF)

Timeline:

Outcome of review and consultations shared for input from team by mid-Q3,
Revised SOP and guidelines proposed by end of Q3.
Published 2024 updates to design.wikimedia.org and Mediawiki.org pages by Apr 2025.

Acceptance criteria

Share revised SOP and principles with design leadership and rest of team
Update Codex site with revised principles @DTorsani-WMF
Update MediaWiki page with revised statement of purpose @KColeman-WMF
Update https://design.wikimedia.org/ (GitLab Wikimedia repo)
Add to design review doc in new tab @Sarai-WMF
