Many people arrive to Wikipedia seeking to understand how events unfolded. Be it, the events within a notable person's life, the events along the path to a scientific discovery, cultural shift, medical breakthrough, etc.
Helpfully, Wikipedia articles are flush with information of this sort. Trouble is, it can be difficult to identify events of the sort named above within long articles.
This task involves the work of introducing a suggested edit that would invite people to annotate (better term?) the events they encounter within the articles they're reading. In doing so, they'd:
- Help machine learning models identify events within articles with more precision and higher recall
- Enable other people to experiment with new knowledge formats that present knowledge by time
- Make it easier for their future selves to identify the notable events within the articles they're reading
