Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • Go to gitlab.wikimedia.org
  • Klick on the log in button
  • wait until the next page loads

What happens?:
A message "Could not authenticate you from OpenIDConnect because "Upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. reset reason: connection failure". appears.

What should have happened instead?:

Software version (on Special:Version page; skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia):

I suspect this may have been caused by the IDM system being down for a bit

idp1004 just had the same issue and has this in the logs:

16-May-2025 01:11:56.963 SEVERE [http-nio-8080-exec-33] org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapperValve.invoke Servlet.service() for servlet [dispatcherServlet] in context with path [] threw exception [Request processing failed: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space] with root cause

Oh shoot, I didn't realize the scope of the ticket was not for idm itself. Sorry for the noise.
