Background

The iOS Wikipedia App should be conscious of the storage it takes up on users's devices. Wherever we can be efficient with our storage, we should take the opportunity to do so. The Year in Review release's binary size is similar in size to other apps, but amounts to almost a tripling of our previous size.

Task

• Reduce the size of the Year in Review release so that it is comparable with the size of 7.6.2
  • One option could be to embed the URL to the GIFS to the commons link, and remove the GIFs from the app
  • @Designer would need to upload all GIFs to Commons

Engineering notes

• Remove GIFs entirely from app binary.
• Maybe: See if a direct link to the commons urls in the web view would work instead, otherwise just remove gifs and have it fall back to the static image. This doc has a link to the commons info. In the commons page, tap "use this file" link and use the url under "File URL:". E.g. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/21/WYiR_Block_1.gif.
