LGoto updated the task description. (Show Details)

Hi @Aklapper my understanding is that we've handled this by hiding the tasks after people create them. It's easier for folks if we take care of the process (adding them to the group and hiding the task) but having this task as a place to collect their submissions should help us wrangle everything.

we've handled this by hiding the tasks after people create them

Sure, that works. Still the docs describe a different order of steps than described in this task.

Yeah, thanks for pointing it out - we'll revise the documentation if this goes well.

How long have we been hiding the tasks?

In Ye Olden Days I picked a project that didn't even have any mentors for outreachy and found my own mentors... that's obviously less than ideal, but the tasks being open made it easier to find extra mentors.

It seems like the tasks being closed like this might be part of why we have fewer tasks and fewer mentors... the less open it is, the harder for it is to people to express interest in mentoring... it adds friction. (I'm signed up as a mentor on the outreachy site but didn't even realise I *also* had to be in a special phab group until today!)

At the very least couldn't we make the tasks visible to all staff? No chance of them getting a head start... :P And maybe also anyone who has +2 rights on gerrit if it's feasible.

How long have we been hiding the tasks?

https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Outreachy%2FAdministrators&diff=3431751&oldid=3125177 in Sep 2019 added "the recent changes in the Outreachy application process requires keeping the featured tasks hidden from the applicants until the application period begins"

Could I be added as a mentor for this group please? I just realized that we needed to hide our tasks, but I don't see that option in Edit Task (presumably because I'm not a member?).

Also, do we need to submit our project on https://www.outreachy.org/outreachy-june-2025-internship-cohort/communities/wikimedia/submit-project/ in addition to the Phab task? If so, should we submit now or wait for org admin approval first?

Thanks.

Hi @Mvolz and @josephine_l I've added you both to the group.

Yes, you do need to submit your project to the Outreachy site. That is the "official" submission, the Phab task is our internal tracking. Thank you!
