Request enabling pap-aw for translatable pages on meta.wikimedia.org
Closed, ResolvedPublicFeature

Description

Feature summary :
On meta.wikimedia.org I would like to be able to use Papiamento (pap-aw language variety of pap) in the translation extension of translatable pages.

Use case(s):

  1. On the page Wikipedia on Aruba/Join, I clicked 'Translate this page' to go the translation extension.
  2. In the translation extension page for the page, I clicked the dropdown menu below the 'Translate to' button, and looked for Papiamento (pap-aw). I found that Papiamentu (pap) is available, but the specific language variety Papiamento (pap-aw) is not.

This could be solved by enabling pap-aw for translatable pages on meta.

Benefits:
It benefits the multi-linguality of Wikimedia and ensures that the people from Aruba who use Papiamento are able to use and read their own language on meta.

Please let me know if I can add or clarify!

In principle this is OK from the LangCom side; but there are no other languages defined in wmgExtraLanguageNames for Meta. We can of course add this as the first language for Meta, but I would like to propose an alternative solution: To add the languages that are currently in wmgExtraLanguageNames for Wikidata and Commons only as default for all Wikimedia wikis instead – but that probably belongs in a new task.

Edit: Err, or one can just add it to Names.php. Sorry, I started writing this comment around two weeks ago, but forgot to post it until I revisited the task today. So feel free to ignore it. :)
