Decide on a new name for Elastic hosts/Rename hosts during reimage
Closed, ResolvedPublic1 Estimated Story Points

Description

We are migrating away from Elasticsearch and onto Opensearch in T370147 . As such, the current naming schemes of "elastic" and "cloudelastic" seem inappropriate for our servers.

Creating this ticket to:

  • Decide whether or not to change the names of our servers
  • Rename servers will happen in T388610

opensearch and cirrus are both available.

Gehel moved this task from Incoming to Scratch on the Data-Platform-SRE board.

I might lean towards cirrus and cirruscloud? Naming things after the underlying software stack seems obvious and we do it in most places, but then can become unclear as things change. Not that we plan to move away from opensearch any time soon,

I've created an Etherpad to keep track of all the name suggestions. Please add your suggestions to the Etherpad, and we can vote on them in a future Search Platform standup.

We've decided to name the hosts cirrussearch. The actual work to rename the servers will happen in T388610, so I'm closing this one out.
