Request to Review and Refine 'Dedupe Exception' Rule
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

We’ve noticed a significant increase in donor data being flagged as "dedupe exceptions" when attempting to merge records in CiviCRM. Most cases involve donors with the same email and country but minor name typos. Additionally, for Japan, variations due to different alphabet ais also triggering these exceptions. As a result, more data is being sent to the exception list than expected, making the process less efficient.

Could we review and refine the rule that determines when CIDs are tagged as dedupe exceptions?

Here are a couple of CIDs that have already been removed from the exception list and merged (hopefully the exception issue I mentioned can be seen in the history/backend): 59236864 and 45845096.

@SHust by the exception list do you mean when contacts are marked as 'not a duplicate' - we don't do that automatically, only manually

@Eileenmcnaughton, is there a way to pull a list of CIDs included in the 'exception' list? I'd like to investigate who is marking them as such and improve this workflow.

Thank you so much!
I see what's causing the increase in exception data—the 'mark non-dupe' action when an anonymous entry appears next to a legitimate donor's name. I'm wondering if we could send all 'anonymous' CIDs somewhere to prevent this from happening. Would something like that be possible?

Yeah - are you gonna do fortnightly in half an hour - would be good to chat about it

Sorry I couldn’t attend the call; I had an appointment! I'll make sure to attend the next one.
