Enable Citoid Tool on bjn.wikiquote.org
Closed, ResolvedPublicFeature

Description

Feature summary
I would like to request the activation of the Citoid tool on bjn.wikiquote.org. This tool will help users generate citations automatically, improving the referencing process on the project.

Use case(s)
Currently, users on bjn.wikiquote.org must manually format citations, which is time-consuming and can lead to inconsistencies. Enabling Citoid will allow users to generate citations automatically when adding references, making the citation process more efficient and standardized. The proposal for this feature was discussed and approved in the community discussion at village pump: https://bjn.wikiquote.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipapadah:Warung_Kupi&oldid=4650#Panambahan_Pakakas_Jujuhutan_gasan_Wikipapadah

Benefits
• Simplifies the citation process for contributors.
• Ensures citation consistency across the project.
• Encourages better referencing practices within the community.

I think the easiest way forward would be just to import the citation templates from bjn wikipedia to wikiquote. This would add some that don't currently exist (i.e. Citakan:Citation) and overwrite i.e. Cite web (though the only difference is it lacks documentation on wikiquote.)

Unless the community wants to use different citation templates than bjn wikipedia, that would be something we could do, but we'd need to know which ones (i.e. if there are any wikiquote specific ones you use.) Also please note that Citoid is mostly adapted for Wikipedias and so the sources will show at the bottom in the references block (not inline which many wikiquote sites prefer.)

If all this sounds okay (just use citation templates from bjn wikipedia), then we can proceed.

Thank you for your suggestion!

Before proceeding with the import, I will check with the community to see if they agree with using the citation templates from Banjar Wikipedia or if they prefer an alternative. I’ll get back to you once we have a consensus.

Thanks for your patience!

Hi, just an update!

I have asked for feedback on the local community discussion page and waited for 15 days. Since there were no objections or alternative suggestions, we can assume consensus has been reached.

Please proceed with importing the citation templates from Banjar Wikipedia as discussed. Thank you!

This is now done.

A couple of notes:

  1. The automatic citation tool now appears in the "insert" menu. This is due to a site-wide config for all wikiquote sites which puts the citation menu item there instead of in the main toolbar. If you want to change the location for the cite button this will involve a mediawiki configuration change and cannot be done on-wiki.
  1. I had to revert some local changes to the Documentation template back to the version that currently exists on bjr.wikipedia.org. It looks like someone in 2023 attempted to update the template (maybe from en wiki) manually, but unfortunately this left the template in a non-functioning state. Because citoid needs this template to work properly, since it fetches the template data from the documentation page, I reverted this, because it prevented citoid from working properly.
