Images with transparency display poorly on dark theme
Closed, DuplicatePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to reproduce

While reading articles and having dark theme, if the article contains images that are PNG or GIF or SVG with transparency, most often they are difficult to understand in the article body, many times quite in not obvious ways. The user has to click on the image to have it displayed stand alone.

Reason: inline, the image is rendered with transparent background and in conjuction with the dark theme makes intelligibility of the image very difficult.

When displayed separately, the image is rendered with white background (where there is transparency) and the image is perfectly understandable.

Even though in this case the theme is also dark.

On light themes there is no problem.

Expected results

Image area be handled in a way such that images with transparency are readable and understandable.
IMO the area used by image should have a white (or very light grey) background.

Event Timeline

I have noticed this problem for a long time (years).
It is true that only now I gathered the info to make a proper bug report.

My thanks to Wikipedia Volunteer Response Team <info-en@wikimedia.org> for guiding me to report it here.
This bug tracking app is not the most intuitive to use though :-(
