Project title: Develop an Interactive Glossary of Wikimedia Terms
Brief summary:
This project aims to create an interactive and user-friendly web-based glossary of key terms used across the Wikimedia ecosystem. The glossary will allow users to easily search for and understand the meaning of specific terms through clear definitions. The project will utilize a modern JavaScript framework, HTML, and CSS to build an engaging and accessible interface, making it easier for new contributors and the general public to understand Wikimedia terminology and encourage participation.
Skills required: HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+), Git, GitHub, Responsive Design. Familiarity with one modern JavaScript framework is highly recommended.
Learning outcomes: The intern will gain practical experience in building a full-fledged interactive web application using modern front-end technologies. They will learn about component-based architecture, state management (depending on the chosen framework), user interface design principles for clarity and usability, and responsive design. The intern will also deepen their understanding of the Wikimedia ecosystem and the importance of clear and accessible documentation. They will improve their skills in Git, GitHub, and collaborative software development practices.

Microtasks:
- Basic HTML Structure for a Glossary Entry: Create a simple HTML page that could represent a single glossary entry. Include elements for the term, definition, and potentially related terms. Submit the HTML code as a file in a Phabricator task.
- Styling a Glossary Entry with CSS: Take the HTML structure from the previous microtask and add basic CSS styling to make it presentable. Submit the CSS code in the Phabricator task.
- Find and Fix a Minor Front-End Bug in a Wikimedia Project: Browse Wikimedia's Phabricator for tasks tagged as "good first issue" or "easy" related to front-end issues (CSS or JavaScript). Attempt to fix one and submit a patch.
Any other additional information that the interns should know about: This project offers a great opportunity to contribute to the Wikimedia movement by making its terminology more accessible. The intern will have the flexibility to choose a JavaScript framework they are comfortable with or willing to learn. Collaboration with Wikimedia community members, especially those involved in documentation and education efforts, will be encouraged. The project could potentially be expanded in the future to include features like multilingual support, links to relevant Wikimedia pages, and community contributions to the glossary.
