ungroup 'new topics' notifications
Open, Needs TriagePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • subscribe to a popular forum like 'admin action alerts'
  • look away for a week

What happens?:

  • Having a notification "3 new topics at AAA" is a bit stupid. (Or 33 new topics) In no circumstances I'm going to handle all new topics at once.

What should have happened instead?: It would be nice to be able to have that grouping option switched off so I get separate notifications for each new topic.

Software version (on Special:Version page; skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia): WMF hosted wiki

Other information (browser name/version, screenshots, etc.): I don't think is needed but happy to provide on request.

You can ungroup the grouped notifications by clicking "Expand" within the notifications popup, and review them one by one.

Thank you for your reply. Needing to do this every time is time consuming and laborious. In fact it deters me from reading the notifications altogether if I am in middle of doing something else and I end up postponing processing the whole group til 'a bit later'. Occasionally this is not the best solution and maybe one of the topics in the group requires more urgent attention than the others. It would be good if I could setup my account to disable this grouping of notifications.

You can also middle-click on the button to open notifications in a new tab, where they will be always shown ungrouped.

That's OK, but it takes me away from my current task. I'm proposing a more ergonomical scenario. It is particularly useful for larger wikis where the notifications count in tens or hundreds a day and I cannot spend time ungrouping them manually.
