Enable CampaignEvents Extension on azwiki
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

  • Wiki: az.wikipedia.org
  • Consensus Discussion: https://w.wiki/DfqC
  • Summary of consensus discussion: Recently, in an offline meeting with some Wikipedians, we decided to organize weekly/monthly meetings and discuss issues on Wikipedia in real life. I suggested activating the CampaignEvents extension on our wiki, which would make it easier to announce and manage these meetings on Wikipedia, and everyone agreed.
  • Expected Outcome: The CampaignEvents extension is enabled on azwiki.

Event Timeline

Thank you for filing this ticket, @Nemoralis! We are delighted that azwiki has voted to enable the extension.

We will schedule a deployment to azwiki very soon, and we will update the ticket when we have a deployment date.

Also, out of curiosity: How did the azwiki community hear about the CampaignEvents extension?

As someone who follows technical news, I was aware of this extension and I have fully translated it into Azerbaijani. When periodic meetings were proposed in the offline meeting, I suggested that we could use this extension. If you look at the discussion, you can see that I started the discussion :)

And also this: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/extensions/CampaignEvents/+/1098608

That is fantastic. Thank you so much for your translation work and support, @Nemoralis!

@ifried hi, when are you going to deploy this? I could send a gerrit patch and schedule it for backport deployment if you want.

Hello, @Nemoralis! Apologies for delay. Many of us are out of office at a team event this week, so I have been slow to respond to messages. We are planning to release to Azeri Wikipedia next week. However, if you would like to do it on your own before then, our team engineers are okay with that too. If you have a preference, you can let us know - otherwise, we'll just continue to plan for a release next week. Thank you!

It seems that administrators should also have event-organizer user group to access some special pages, is this expected?

Hello @Nemoralis,

The extension has now been released to azwiki.

Right now, admins do not automatically have the event-organizer right, though we will be changing this soon: T386861. This change will probably come in the next few weeks. In the meantime, if an admin wants the event-organizer right, they will need to grant it to themselves.

Thank you, and let us know if you have any more questions!

The pages that I can access without the organizer right are working correctly so am sending this to product sign off.

This has been deployed. I am marking this as Done.
