Define the selection criteria and measurement plan for deployment of the CentralBanner notice on small wikis
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

As part of T391035, one of the interventions is to deploy a CentralBanner notice on small wikis (likely around 5) and study its use and impact on increasing awareness about small wikis, contributors, the use of growth features, and ultimately content growth. More details here T391045.

For selection criteria, it may be necessary to stick with the same set of wikis as for the GrowthExperiments T391041, as the two interventions are related. It might be necessary to also determine the high traffic Wikipedia for the smaller language wiki where the banner is to be shown.

For the measurement plan, although what we want to measure currently depends on T390967, some things we could examine include:

  • Number of page views on articles on small wikis
  • Number of readers reached
  • Number of Wikimedia accounts reached
  • Number of active users of GrowthExperiments
  • Number of active editors at the beginning vs. after three months of deployment
  • Number of bytes added

Note: both the selection criteria (which wikis to select) and what we should measure as a primary metric are essentially blocked until the work from T390967 is complete (or near completion).

Even to select wikis, we will need the definitions of what is reasonable content growth and definition of sustainability, and the selection will be wikis which don't meet the defined criteria (+ any other considerations like templates). For evaluation, while the listed metrics are helpful for additional understanding (as secondary metrics), the primary metric will be dependent on content growth & wiki sustainability definitions, as that is what we want to impact and change with these interventions.
