When starting a translation for an article that already exists in the target wiki (example, the desktop editor shows a warning next to the title (T190038). However, the initial indicator of warning is subtle, and users need to expand it (by taping on the title or expanding the card) to view the warning in more detail.
| Initially collapsed warning | Expanded warning when focus is on the title |
|---|---|
With the current approach, users may not notice the warning initially, making them more prone to wasted efforts. For example, start translating paragraphs to later realize were already covered in the target article.
In order to increase early awareness of these issues, we can consider the following approach: When the user starts a new translation (and only in such case), if there is an issue with the title, make the input focus to go to the title initially.
In this way, users will see the issue with the title in more detail and feel encouraged to act accordingly at an earlier time.
