Description

The goal of this task is to setup a Growth mentorship page and to provide a mentor to 100% of new accounts.

Percentage of new accounts receiving a mentor at the moment: 50%. The last change to this percentage was made in March 2023.

Number of mentors
We advise to have one mentor for each batch of 500 newcomers joining each month. On average, es.wp gets 12,000 new accounts per month (March 2025), which means a need of +24 mentors.

Unfortunately, this task is blocked on deadlines/clarity of the deadlines, and it doesn't seem actionable to me. The task was filled on April 29, with a deadline that says March 14 (so prior to the filling of the task), which appears suspicious. The other dates are not defined yet, making them non-actionable as well.

As of May 8, 2025, eswiki has 20 mentors enrolled in Mentorship, with 2 of them in Away status. Considering that 24 mentors are needed to provide support to 100% of the new accounts, these 18 active mentors could already support at least 70% of the new accounts.

@Trizek-WMF - there is another task T285235: Provide a Growth mentor for 100% of new accounts at Spanish Wikipedia that is still Open. The patch config change (https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/operations/mediawiki-config/+/1145184) refers to T285235:

Should those tasks be merged? This task's description calls for future increases in new accounts assignment to 100% in the future, so both tasks (T285235 and this T392869) have the same scope as far as I could see.
