Project Name: osmviews
Developer account usernames of requestors: Sascha
Purpose: S3-compatible object storage for osmviews.toolforge.org
Brief description: OSMViews is analyzing public OpenStreetMap logs to compute a GeoTIFF file with the relative importance of every location on the planet. The main user is qrank.toolforge.org (another project of mine), which would like to use OSMViews as an additional signal for ranking Wikidata entities with a geographic location. The osmviews pipeline is a cron job that runs for about 2 hours per week, during which it needs ~30 GiB of local scratch disk. I believe it should be possible to run the osmviews pipeline on Wikimedia Toolforge without an NFS mount. However, the pipeline needs 20 GiB of S3-compatible object storage, which Toolforge projects afaik can't get without an associated VPS project, hence this ticket.
